The LIPU Torrile Oasis was created in 1988 and is the first example of "environmental restoration" in Italy.
Lipu in fact sought to recreate a strip of the ancient cleared wetland, the marsh ecosystem and differentiated water levels, thereby supporting the nesting and permanence of water birds.
The LIPU Torrile Oasis has become a small paradise for birds and birdwatchers, with over 250 heron species sighted in the oasis in just a few years.
The species attracting the most attention during Spring is the black-winged stilt, unmistakeable thanks to its long red legs, black and white feathers and thin beak.
The Oasis is easy to reach. Take the SS 343 from Parma heading towards Colorno, and then once you reach the vicinity of San Polo di Torrile follow signs for the Oasi LIPU Torrile.
